ROTOMAN SUFFERS
Like so many others this winter season, I came down with the big bug. It may not be just one bug, but nobody seems willing to say it is. Everyone says it might be virological, bacteriological, or mycological. My doctor gave me big orange pills that attack bacteriological causes and since Tuesday some elements of the illness are better. Others, alas, seem to be a little worse.
I was able to get the ultimate edition of the Patton Software out this afternoon, and after the paywall subscribers will find a link to the Patton Spreadsheet, which are very similar to the Master Sheets I’ve linked to all season here.
They will be just as useful for organizing any drafts/auctions you have coming up. Thank you for your patience with this. I hope you like it.
RIP Mike Fenger
Mike was a long-time contributor to the Patton Software and player comments, as well as The Fantasy Baseball Guide, from the early aughts until the late teens.
Mike, Alex, and I spent a lot of time together at First Pitch Arizona over the course of many years. We always sat in an arrangement like this:
Mike, like many roto players, had his fingers all over the place. He played golf, worked in law publishing, was a regular visitor to Jazzfest in New Orleans, and it would not be a surprise to find him on Facebook, somewhere in the world sitting behind a seafood tower of some sort enjoying himself immensely at a big table with friends.
He was friends with the band Little Feat and hung around with them in the teens during their Bay Area club appearances. Some years back, but not too many, Mike called and said he was coming to New York to see the Feat in Port Chester. We met in the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station and ate an astounding number (for me) of delicious oysters, then hit the train and a terrific show at a great historic theater. It was a great time.
I last saw Mike in Arizona in 2021, I think, the first First Pitch after the vaccine. Mike had retired, was spending a lot of time with his daughters and grand children, all of whom he adored. He had health issues, and stopped writing. We now know these as the golden years of a genuinely gentle and good man whose many friends will long miss him
THANK YOU
I would like to go on about the bats, Tommy Edman, Jack Leiter, and a million other things, but the energy for this moment is just about gone.
Thank you for reading and writing all preseason long. Your comments, questions, and thoughts are a highlight for me and I hope other readers as well.
I’ll be back in season with at least the month by month prices, and I have some other plans in mind that might see the light of day this summer.
I hope you all win your leagues, and more importantly have all the fun you can playing this great game with good and challenging people. We are lucky to have this.
Remember, Sheet Link after the paywall.
Hasta la vista, babies!
Here comes the paywall (thanks for subscribing)!
